MANZINI – PUDEMO President Mario Masuku has retained his presidency while political activist Mphandlana Shongwe was elected as the Second Deputy Secretary of the organisation.

PUDEMO is an acronym for the People’s United Democratic Movement and this happened during the organisation’s congress that was held at COSATU House, Johannesburg over the weekend.
The Secretary, Mlungisi Makhanya, said the congress followed a number of conferences which were aimed at discussing and adopting the organisation’s policies.

He said they also updated a number of the organisation’s documents, which included the strategic tactic and code of conduct among others.
Other documents that the secretary said were unpacked and discussed include the transitional plan document, which talked about how they would address any possible scenario that could come their way during the struggle and also championed the decade of liberation.

“As 2014 marks the start of the fourth decade since the organisation was formed, we have also labelled it ‘a decade of liberation’. This does not mean we want to liberate the country after the next years but we mean that we will do that within the decade. It can happen this year, next year or half way in the decade,” he said.
Makhanya said the congress ended with elections where their members democratically elected a new Central Working Committee.
He said Masuku retained his presidency while Borman Tsela was elected the Vice President.

“I was elected the secretary while former Swaziland Youth Congress Secretary General and President Alex Langwenya was elected the First Deputy Secretary.
“Well-known political activist, Mphandlana Shongwe was elected as the Second Deputy Secretary,” he said.
The secretary said Lenus Mavimbela and Jerome Shongwe were elected as the Treasurer General and Assistant Treasurer, respectively.

We welcome the new leadership of our glorious movement and we wish them well. We hope they will work well together and will do away with the disunity that was prevalent in the last leadership.

We also welcome the return of comrade Borman and I hope other stalwarts will now come back to help us achieve liberation and multiparty democracy in our lifetime.

Well only a person who is economically gaining massively from this monarchy system would definitely want the party crushed. Well there are few Swazi's enjoying the little profits Swaziland makes at the expense of the majority that are really struggling to meet ends needs. A majority of people live below the poverty line because some of the government officials are clearing the funds which our king properly issues to parliament.

I just hope that PUDEMO can be a body that ensures that swazis are better off than they currently are. well I am not an activist and don't even believe in the democratic system at least I would admit that i prefer the socialist system.

So please do not say that PUDEMO needs to be crushed a chance must be given to them or they need to talk to those people in high posts to fix this and then we will all enjoy the monarchy system which i don't really see the problem with.

Thank you

It is good news for the democratic front when PUDEMO shows real progress. Let us hope this leading organisation in the liberation struggle will gain more speed as time goes.

The fate of this country could be lying in his hands. It is a known fact that Swaziland is not classified as a democratic country. PUDEMO could be a movement that could undo this Swazi scenario.
