MBABANE- A total of 110 employees were trained by SWACAA in preparation for the takeover of Sikhuphe International Airport.
This is contained in the Ministry of Public Works and Transport’s annual performance report for the year 2013/2014.

SWACAA stands for the Swaziland Civil Aviation Authority.
The report is yet to be tabled and debated in Parliament.
According to the report, the training was also to ensure that operations were safe, effective, efficient and in line with ICAO’s standards and recommended practices.
Of the trained employees, 15 were air rescue and firefighting personnel and five were finance officers trained on international financial reporting standards.

The others included eight employees who were trained in various air traffic engineering courses, six on resolution of safety concerns and three from Aeronautical Information Management were trained on AUS Basic Course.
The rest were 20 employees in the aviation security department who were trained on cargo and mail security and 18 were trained on ACSEC supervisory course.

ACC team works under threatening conditions

MBABANE – The Anti Abuse Unit officers work under extremely threatening conditions.
This is contained in the annual performance report by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport which is yet to be tabled and debated in Parliament.

The report stated that the Anti Abuse Unit officers worked under extremely threatening conditions, and the daily threats directed to the inspectors and subsequent assault of one officer by the army personnel was enough proof of this.
“The recent criminal involving the head of the unit is another case in point,” it said.

Abused

The officers managed to nab 1020 government vehicles which were being abused in 2013/2014 financial year.
The report also stated that the unit employs only 11 people, the Lubombo region has no Government Vehicle Inspector, thus a request would be filled with the Ministry of Public Service.
The location of the unit within the Ministry of Public Works and Transport continues to be a problem in that the inspectors tend to sympathise with the drivers of the ministry as they are their colleagues.

It is being considered that a unit of this nature could be more effective if placed within a government department such as the Audit Department,” the report reads.
The report also stated security forces had teams campaigning in the Premier League of Swaziland, and although government supported sporting activities, there were no clear rules as to how government vehicles allocated to these forces were to be used during these activities.
