12 LUTSANGO MEMBERS INJURED IN KOMBI CRASH
MALINDZA – At least 12 members of the Lutsango regiment were injured when a Quantum they were travelling in overturned after a collision with a truck yesterday.
The driver of the Quantum Sibusiso Tsabedze said he was ferrying the Lutsango regiment from Ludzidzini Royal Residence to Hlane Royal Residence yesterday when the kombi was hit by a mini-truck from behind and it overturned.
The accident occurred at around 3pm at Malindza along the Hhelehhele-Siteki Road. Tsabedze said while driving during a light drizzle, the vehicle was hit from behind and he lost control of it and it overturned and landed in a swamp on the side of the road.
He said he tried everything possible to avoid hitting oncoming traffic and swerved the vehicle out of the road, but it unfortunately overturned injuring the women in the process.
The kombi was extensively damaged as a result of the accident. The truck that was reported to have caused the accident landed in a ditch on the opposite side of the road. It was fully loaded with empty crates.
Tsabedze said he was lucky to escape with only knocks on his body when a number of the regiments were injured. Paramedics from the Emergency Preparedness Response (EPR) Unit and Fire and Emergency Unit responded quickly to the scene and ferried the injured to hospital.
