NDLANDLAMENI - The marula festival at Prince Logcogco’s Chiefdom ended on a chaotic note as a skirmish ensued where three people were injured and rushed to hospital.

The ceremony was held on Saturday at Ndlandlameni Chiefdom. The skirmish ensued while the people were preparing to leave and involved a group of about 20 youth members from the area.
Information gathered from some of the witnesses who saw the fight when it started, the bone of contention was that some  herdsmen let their cattle into the others’ maize fields.

“The men started confronting each other inside the Royal Kraal but were calmed down by the elders. They then challenged each other to go outside the Royal Kraal. When they were outside they started assaulting each other with open hands, fists, sticks and knobkerries,” the source said.

He said the skirmish drew attention from other people who tried to intervene but failed as the people involved started throwing stones at each other. The source said some of the people involved in the fight ran to their homes armed with knives and spears among other weapons.
The source said a chase ensued as the other faction discovered that the others were armed with dangerous weapons.

“There were three people who were seriously injured such that they had to be rushed to the Raleigh Fitkin Memorial (RFM) Hospital. One of them was stabbed with a knife several times on the shoulders while the other was stabbed with a spear on the body.
“The third one was assaulted with fists, kicks, stones, sticks and knobkerries all over the body and was left lying unconsciously on the ground,” the source said.

It was gathered that one of them was transferred to Manzini Clinic where he was admitted while the other was still undergoing treatment at the RFM Hospital. The source said the third victim was discharged yesterday.
