MBABANE – Two people died when a bus collided with a sedan along the Hhelehhele – Siphofaneni public road.
The accident occurred at Mphosi.

The bus, Malangeni Bus Service collided with a Volkswagen Citi Golf killing two people on the spot.
The dead are the driver and a passenger who occupied the front seat, and they are said to be relatives.

The other three passengers who were on board the Golf were rushed to the Raleigh Fitkin Memorial (RFM) Hospital.
According to eyewitnesses who were found at the scene, the bus was driving towards Manzini while the Citi Golf was driving towards Siphofaneni when they collided.

Information gathered is that the bus was trying to evade a water ditch at the centre of its lane when it collided with the sedan.
Following the collision, the bus further veered off the road and drove into a ditch subsequently injuring passengers on board. The passengers from the bus and the three from the sedan were all rushed to RFM Hospital after sustaining serious injuries.

Police Deputy Public Relations Officer Inspector Khulani Mamba confirmed the accident.
“Yes! The accident happened and it is said the bus collided with the sedan. The sedan had five passengers and two of them died on the spot. The other three were rushed to the Raleigh Fitkin Memorial Hospital,” he said.

Inspector Mamba said investigations were ongoing to establish the cause of the accident.
By the time this report was compiled, no one had been charged and arrested for the accident.

MP blames heavy rains, bad road

MBABANE – Gundwane Gamedze thinks the accident was a result of the recent heavy rains.
The Siphofaneni constituency Member of Parliament (MP) suggested that the accident could have been caused by the recent rains.
“During the rainy days, water form a pool within the road and that can cause an accident. Something needs to be done,” he said.
He stated that he was in the process of contacting the Minister of Public Works and Transport, Pastor Lindiwe Dlamini to inform her of the accident.
“This is not the first time an accident happens in that place. The last time four people died and this shows that something needs to be done,” he said.
