PIGG’S PEAK – A police officer attached under the Close Protection Unit has approached the court seeking an order compelling member of the Board of Royal Trustees Mavovo Mkhonto to register a car he bought from him.

Valimoya Msweli claims in 2009, he bought a car, a Toyota diesel van, from Mkhonto and for the past five years the erstwhile senator has failed or refused to register the car. The car is foreign registered, NUD4205.

Msweli alleges that Mkhonto sold the car for E58 000. He said he first paid E50 000 cash and the balance later.
These are allegations contained in an affidavit whose veracity is yet to be determined in court.
Msweli claimed that when he bought the car from Mkhonto, the latter made a promise that he would have the vehicle registered locally. He alleges that despite this promise, Mkhonto has failed or refused to register the car.

“He has also not given me its blue book and this has made me unable to also pay for the licence disc,” Msweli alleged in court papers.
He said he has since been forced to park the car because it is currently unlicensed as its licence disc expired. He alleged that he had tried

engaging Mkhonto on a number of occasions regarding the matter but there were no positive results. He further alleged that at one point he approached Ludzidzini Governor Timothy Velabo Mtetwa to report Mkhonto. He said during their meeting with Mtetwa, it was promised that he would be summoned and the matter would be addressed amicably.
“Information I got is that Mkhonto denied knowing me. What shocked me though is that Mkhonto, despite denying ever meeting me, called and accused me of playing games,” Msweli alleged.
Msweli approached the Pigg’s Peak Magistrate Court yesterday. The matter is expected to be heard in court on March 25, 2014.
