MBABANE – Isaiah Mzuthini Ntshangase, the Commissioner of His Majesty’s Correctional Services, has promoted a total of 55 officers to the rank of Chief Officers.
Ntshangase, in an interview on Friday, said the promotions were with effect from the beginning of the month.

The officers have been promoted from the rank of sergeants.
“The promotions further enforce the drive of ‘professionalising Corrections’, that skills and professional development training is critical to creating a professional organisation, hence the service has given higher priority to the recruitment of professionals, promotion and training activities for staff,” stated the commissioner.

He further mentioned: “Focus is on attracting and retaining officers who possess the values, knowledge and necessary expertise to execute the mandate of the Correctional Services holistically.”
Ntshangase then lauded the newly-promoted officers and urged them to carry out their new duties in a competent fashion.

He highlighted that some of the promotions were as a result of officers who either died or retired from the service.
The commissioner said such positions had been vacant since 2011.
Ntshangase emphasised that there was nothing sinister with the promotions.

Prince Majaha now Second Lieutenant

MBABANE – Prince Majaha, one of the sons of His Majesty King Mswati III, has been promoted to the rank of Second Lieutenant. The prince, whose mother is Inkhosikati LaMotsa, is a member of the Umbutfo Swaziland Defence Force (UDSF). In the past, he was just an ordinary soldier known as Private. Prince Majaha, 22, is based at the Air-Wing in Matsapha.

His name is among the list of 39 soldiers who have been commissioned and promoted by the King. His Majesty is the Commander-in-Chief of the USDF. The duo of Princes - Sicalo and Lindani holds the rank of Lieutenant in the army.
USDF PRO Major Madoda Mkhatshwa confirmed the commissioning and promotion of the officers.

Mkhatshwa, a younger brother to the Minister of Labour and Social Security Winne Magagula, said a majority of the officers had been promoted to the rank of lieutenant.
He said the officers had been promoted from all sections of the army.

The army publicist named such sections as the air traffic controller and nurses. “The nurses have been promoted to match the salaries of their colleagues outside the army while other officers possess special skills,” stated Mkhatshwa. “Some officers joined the army as cadets, hence the need to promote them.”
The army mouthpiece said he hoped the promotions would encourage the officers to perform to their best abilities in as far as quality service delivery was concerned in the army.

Mkhatshwa stressed that it was of paramount importance to recognise the amount of effort put by officers while carrying out their duties.
He said it was with no doubt that the promoted officers would be highly motivated thus exerting extra effort in taking the army to another level.
