COMPANY DEMANDS OVER E1M FOR AIRPORT REVAMP

MBABANE –  A company which revamped and further supplied furniture to the Matsapha International Airport is demanding over E1 million from the Ministry of Home Affairs.


Beauty Build Construction has since taken the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Attorney General to court.
In its combined summons the construction company alleges that on or about August 20, 2008 it entered into a partly written agreement with the Ministry of Home Affairs to revamp certain defects at the Matsapha International Airport.


These are allegations contained in an affidavit whose veracity is still to be tested in court and government is yet to file responding papers.
The company alleges that in concluding the agreement, the company was represented by Bongani Masango and the ministry by the then Principal Secretary Meshack Shongwe.


The company also alleges that it was engaged to revamp the terminal building, standard VIP lounge and Royal VIP lounge of the airport. “The project was to be concluded before the 40/40 Double Celebrations and because of the urgency of the project it did not follow the protocol tender. 
“The pro

ject was divided into two phases. Phase One was for the entire renovations and Phase Two was for supplies,” reads part of the combined summons.


Invoice


The company further alleges that in terms of the agreement, on completion of each phase, it was to invoice the ministry and the latter would pay the invoice upon presentation.
Beauty Build Construction further stated that following the conclusion of the agreement it duly complied with the agreement and in particular attended to revamping the Matsapha International Airport and presented an invoice of E5 130 223.54.
