SITEKI – A Form IV pupil of Tikhuba High School has had part of his right leg amputated after he was run over by a bus on Monday morning. The incident occurred at Mambane, about 50 kilometres east of Siteki town.

The pupil is currently recuperating at Good Shepherd Hospital following the unfortunate incident. A woman who was on board the bus when the accident occurred told this publication that the pupil got injured as he attempted to jump into the bus while it was moving.

“The bus arrived at a bus stop near Lucaceni Primary School and picked a few pupils. Just as the bus was about to leave the bus stop, the pupil came running while calling for the bus to stop. The bus did not stop but accelerated yet he was now near the door. As he tried to jump into the bus, he fell and the bus ran over his leg,” the woman said while asking to remain anonymous. It was gathered from the passengers on board that after the accident, the bus driver stopped and called for help.

The injured pupil was rushed to hospital but the lower part of his right leg was badly injured.
When the Times visited the pupil yesterday afternoon he was found in a stable condition.
He said he was still shocked by what had befallen him, and said doctors had assured him that he would be fine.

“Its just minor pain on the injured leg but I’m fine,” he briefly said while also confirming that he got injured while trying to board a moving bus.
He further confirmed that his leg had been amputated. Meanwhile, Matsanjeni North Member of Parliament (MP) Phila Buthelezi said the constituency had already sent a message of support and comfort to the injured pupil’s family.
