MATSAPHA – A Correctional services officer killed his pregnant girlfriend and then hung himself inside his flat at the Matsapha Maximum facility.
Dumisani Dlamini (46) stabbed his girlfriend, Delisile Madonsela (29) to death on Saturday.

Madonsela’s corpse was found with a stab wound above her left breast and also seemed to have been hit on the head with an iron rod.
It is believed that the murder could have been premeditated by the Correctional officer as family members claimed that he had asked his girlfriend to pay him a visit at the flats occupied by the Correctional services staff. The girlfriend is said to have recently moved out of the government house amid claims that she had also ended the relationship which lasted 10 years.
It is said that neighbours did not hear the couple argue or fight.

It was only after workmates became worried as Dlamini did not answer their phone calls, and they then went to his flat to check on him. Repeated attempts to knock on the door drew no responses and his colleagues thereafter went around the flat in an attempt to gain entry. It was then that they saw a bloodied corpse wrapped in a bedcover.
The police were then called and upon gaining entry it was discovered that Madonsela had been murdered.

As the police officers were about to remove the dead body, it was also discovered that Dlamini had hung himself in the shower.
Superintendent Bongani Khumalo, His Majesty’s Correctional Services (HMCS) Public Relations Officer, confirmed the murder and suicide.
“On Saturday, a warder, Dumisani Dlamini committed suicide after he had stabbed his girlfriend. He was found hanging from the shower after his family and colleagues went to investigate his whereabouts,” said Superintendent Khumalo.

He said the deceased warder’s colleagues became suspicious when he did not respond to their phone calls as they were calling Dlamini for work-related issues.
Khumalo further said the HMCS personnel, together with Dlamini’s family, went to investigate his well-being as they suspected that he could be sick.

Superintendent Khumalo also sent condolences to the family of the decased individuals. He also said these were disturbing news to the institution as the deceased had amassed over 20 years of experience as an officer at the institution.
Khumalo advised the staff of HMCS that all love relationships had challenges. He said people who experience challenges in their relationships should seek help.

“Relationships have challenges and people should seek help as a solution to whatever difficulty they are experiencing at any given time. officers in charge at the different centres play a parental role and officers should approach them for help,” Khumalo said.
He further stated that within the HMCS institution there are chaplains, social workers, psychologists and nurses.
