10-MAN MOZ DOWN WASTEFUL UNDER-17S IN REGION V CLASH
(At Babourfields Stadium, Zimbabwe)
Mozambique ...........................(1)2
Adriano 3rd, Rui 48th
Swaziland ................................(1)1
Wandile 7th
BULAWAYO – A wasteful Under-17 soccer side lost 1-2 to 10-man Mozambique to sum up a bad day in office for Team Swaziland at the Region V Youth Games yesterday.
Despite being adventurous for the better part of the clash, Velekahaya Mthethwa’s charges found themselves on the back foot at the end of proceedings after squandering countless chances in the game played at Barboufields Stadium in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.
The hosts, who were reduced to 10 men in added time after Rui Milambo was sent off for a second bookable offence, tried to unsettle the opposition early, opening their account through skipper Adriano Hermenegildo Santos who tapped in from close range to beat a flat-footed Swaziland defence in the third minute.
The visitors matched their opponents, cancelling the lead four minutes later through Wandile Dlamini who converted a searching ball from close range.
The over 800 supporters were kept glued on the field of play with enterprising play but the teams were level at the break.

Swaziland were more threatening after the re-start but had a major setback when Wandile conceded a penalty as he was adjudged to have brought down Milvan Salimo in the box. Salimo made no mistake from six yards in the 48th minute.
The local charges kept pressing in search of the equaliser but their finishing left much to be desired as Melusi Nyaweni was without his ‘scoring boots’.
The away team had their foot on the accelerator in the last 10 minutes but had not cancelled the lead at the end of proceedings.
