‘WHY I BEAT UP ‘MLILO’
MBABANE – Green Mamba captain Siyabonga ‘Msholozi’ Mdluli has revealed what made him to floor, with a blow, his Royal Leopard counterpart, Zweli ‘Mlilo’ Nxumalo.
The incident, which has shocked the football fraternity, occurred on Sunday at Mavuso Sports Centre soon after the second leg semi-final forces’ derby pitting the two teams.
Interviewed yesterday, the Sihlangu defender alleged that Nxumalo kicked him where it hurt the most during the course of the game and also appeared to shove him with his elbow. Mdluli said he expected the Leopard attacker to apologise to him but it never happened.
“I then reacted badly after seeing him rush to the dressing rooms soon after the game yet I had expected him to apologise to me for the incident, which happened during the game. He kicked me where I had my operation and it really hurt.
“I am so sorry for my action and I genuinely believe that it was uncalled for. I sincerely apologise to ‘Mlilo’, his teammates at Leopard, Leopard officials, his friends, my Green Mamba teammates and everyone who may have been affected by my actions,” he said.
Mdluli said he was aware that the spirit of sportsmanship frowned upon such acts. He also extended his apologies to both the National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) and the Premier League of Swaziland (PLS).
“In fact I also want to apologise to every soccer supporter for my actions. I am truly sorry for what happened,” said the hard tackler. Nxumalo, on the other hand, when interviewed after the incident, said he was ready to move on and let the incident go, noting that football was a short-term career.
