EZULWINI – The entire nation is invited to help finance the national team, Sihlangu in the drive to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals in Gabon next year.

Harries ‘Madze’ Bulunga’s charges, who have a realistic chance of qualifying for the continental football showpiece for the first time, travel to Blantyre, Malawi, for the deciding game of the qualifiers on September 4.  Ensuring that the outfit got all necessary support, especially funding, dominated yesterday’s deliberations during a breakfast meeting at Gigi’s Restaurant at Royal Swazi yesterday.

The event was organised by the National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) in collaboration with the Victor Gamedze led Sihlangu Project Committee.
During the gathering, the country’s footballers mother body’s CEO Frederick Mngomezulu outlined the over E3 million costs of the trip, revealing a detailed breakdown of the expenses that include fees for flights.
Gamedze reminded those willing to come on board to offer support before the game against the Flames of Malawi.

“We also look to sensitise Cabinet on the issue as well,” said Gamedze, responding to a question from SwaziBank PRO, Phesheya Vilakati.
Vilakati had asked for the fundraising drive to be nationalised, but Gamedze clarified that all stakeholders were involved, even those absent during the deliberations in Ezulwini.

Undersecretary in the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs, Maswazi Shongwe, appealed for unity and commitment from all sectors, stressing the need for a strong contingent of supporters to watch the game.
Football stakeholders and partners that include representatives from Swaziland Beverages, MTN Swaziland, and Swaziland National Sports and Recreation Council (SNSRC), among others, witnessed the event.
