MBABANE – Mbabane Swallows and Young Buffaloes were slapped with a E35 000 fine apiece for the nasty brawl witnessed at the Mavuso Sports Centre last Saturday.

The two sides appeared before the Sikhumbuzo Simelane chaired National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) Disciplinary Committee last night facing two counts of misconduct. The charges emanated from scenes violence in their league clash headlined by the sending off of two players from each side. The teams were found guilty of attempting to bring football into disrepute as well as failing to control the implicated players.

The sides’ action was said to be in contravention of Articles 7.1 (d) and 7.1 (f) of the tournament’s rules and regulations. In the first count with a maximum fine of E30 000, they were ordered to pay E10 000. In the last accusation of failure to control the players, they would forfeit the highest amount of E25 000.

All the affected players in Swallows’ duo of Sanele Mkhweli and Banele ‘Pupu’ Sikhondze as well as Phiwa Dlamini and Samkelo ‘Rio’ Lushaba of Buffaloes made a stop at Sigwaca House in Mbabane yesterday for the protracted case.

Sikhondze, who was adjudged to have sparkled the incident by fighting Buffaloes defender, Betrum Dlamini, was ordered to pay the minimum E10 000 fine for the offence. The lanky forward (Phiwa) had been accused of assaulting Sikhondze.

The rest of the players were acquitted as match officials reports were found to be contradictory. Full reasons for the acquittal of the Buffaloes players, it was ruled, would be stated in writing.
