INVITATION FOR LADIES IN WINDHOEK GOLF QUALIFIERS
MBABANE – Ladies are invited to take part in golf, especially the Windhoek Lager Africa Jacket qualifiers.
There were only three ladies that took part in the qualifiers that were held at the Mbabane Golf Club on Saturday and one of them stands a chance of representing the country in the qualifiers slated for Windhoek, Namibia in June.
The three ladies who took it to the greens were Phumlile Zwane, Nokuthula Dlamini and Ngeti Mkhonta. Leading the trio now is Phumlile Zwane, while Nokuthula is second, with Ngeti Mkhonta third.
Ngeti Mkhonta said she started playing golf when she was about 35 years old and since then she had never looked back.
“It is not good that few ladies are playing the sport while it has a lot of benefits for individuals. Golf is one sport that assists you to focus and also aim doing well. When you miss a hole, it is not over as you have another target. And this goes all the way to help you even the way you do things outside the course,” he said.
Mkhonta said walking around the course assisted one to exercise.
The tournament saw over 60 golfers taking part. The Swaziland Golf Union (SGU) President Albert Mhlanga said they were proud of the golfers who came all out in their numbers to play in the tournament.
“It is impressing to see such a large field of golfers here at Mbabane Club. We are hopeful that golfers will continue to attend the next three editions of the qualifiers that are coming,’ he said.
The next qualifying tournament is slated for February 11 at Mananga Golf Club, the Usutu Golf Club will host the third edition with the last qualifiers held at Manzini Golf Club on April 29.
