MBABANE – Hefty fines await Super League teams who have unqualified coaches. The National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) has issued a circular ordering all 80 Super League clubs in the country to have coaches with a minimum qualification of a D Licence.

The Hhohho Regional Football Association HRFA has already invoked the circular by fining defaulting teams E300 per match. If after five games a team still has not brought a qualified coach, they take it for disciplinary hearing. HRFA Chairman Comfort Shongwe said they had long communicated the circular to the teams, following a directive from the FA.

“This is a development issue as it seeks to have qualified coaches in our regional senior leagues. And teams have responded well to this as they are now sending their coaches to the various courses provided by the office of the FA Technical Director,” he said.
He said if a team is taken for disciplinary hearing, they stand to be fined further or have points deducted.

Lubombo Regional Football Association LRFA Chairman Mangaliso Sihlongonyane said in his region, they started by organising the courses, where teams sent their coaches.
“We did it differently in Lubombo. We organised the courses first and during the training, coaches applied for provisional licenses to work,” he said.

FA CEO Frederick Mngomezulu said they were targeting the top 114 teams in the country to have at least qualified coaches. He said the minimum qualification for Super League clubs will improve from D Licence to C Licence.
