MBABANE – The Royal Swaziland Police (RSP) rifle shooting team athletes’ job is safe with their employer as they excel in the range during competitions.

The National Commissioner of Police, Isaac Magagula, said they can ill afford to have officers who are not proficient in the use of firearms, as they might find themselves endangering themselves and even in public.

“This sport is critical to the police in that it helps to cultivate skills for maximum accuracy, so that when situations arise for the police to use a firearm, they should not miss the target. We are therefore grateful that our team has committed itself and have won in all these categories they were competing in and we are proud of their achievement,” he said.

The RSP rifle shooting team have excelled in the past year. Police team A won the first prize in the National Commissioner’s Cup while Team B came third. In the individual male category, Officer Nhlanhla Sithole was the champion and his runner-up was Sibusiso Magagula. They won gold and silver medals, respectively and cash prizes. Female officer Msizi Dludlu came third in the individual female category winning a bronze medal.

“In both the Army Commander’s Cup and Governor’s Cup, the Police team also outclassed their competitors, receiving first and second prizes.
Police riffle club captain Sandile Simelane said the players were committed and doing well in the sport. He thanked the national commissioner for the support.

“We are going to work hard and continue winning. Some of the tournaments are sponsored by our president and we cannot afford to lose,” he said.
