MBABANE – Ngwane College taught their opponents a clear lesson that when it comes to track and field events, they are the best.

The Shiselweni-based teachers’ college was exceptional during the Swaziland University College Sports Association (SUCSA) games held at Mavuso Sports Centre on Saturday.

They topped the charts after recording an impressive 195 points ahead of second-placed William Pitcher, who scored 180 points.
Coming third was Kwaluseni Campus on 169 points while Ngwane Park Youth Centre and Luyengo Campus completed the top five bracket on 85 and 82 points, respectively.

Gwamile Vocational and Commercial Training Institute (VOCTIM) were the worst performers on the day as they accumulated only a meagre 17 points. They occupied the 10th spot while Limkokwing University scored 28 points and were positioned on the ninth spot. SUCSA Secretary Sibusiso Dlamini said the championships were a success despite that the number of institutions declined from 13 to 10.

“The championships went very well although some institutions failed to keep time. The event was violence free and we want to commend students for that. The standard of the competition was a bit low and this may be attributed to the fact we held the competition earlier than usual,” said Dlamini.

He highlighted that they usually stage the competition in April.
“We had to do them earlier this year to meet the deadline for selection of athletes to attend the FISU World University Games in Tapei.Well, coming to the weather, it was very perfect for the competition as it was cloudy and drizzling throughout the day,” said Dlamini.
