SA TOP ATHLETE THUGWANE FOR ‘TUFF ONE’ MARATHON
MBABANE – South Africa’s veteran athlete Josiah Thugwane, will feature in the ‘Tuff One’ race on Sunday at Zakhele Sports Ground.
The celebrated athlete who among other competitions, won the Atlanta 1996 Olympic marathon is among the top international athletes who have shown interest in competing in the race.
Golden Foot Athletics Club Chairperson Tokky Hou, said athletes from Mpumalanga, South Africa have also confirmed their participation in the race.
The Umbutfo Swaziland Defence Force (USDF) is expected to continue with their dominance in the half marathon through Melusi Sihlongonyane who won the ‘Wafa Wafa’ race hosted by the USDF Athletics team last month.
The winners in the 21km will take home E1 800 in both males and females, while the runner up will receive E1 200.
Third finishers will pocket E600 with fourth positioned getting E360. There are prizes also for veterans, masters, grand masters and juniors.
In the 10km, the winner will pocket E550 with the runners up getting E350, and third finisher taking home E220.
All finishers will receive medals and T-shirt upon reaching the finish line. Both races will start at 6am.
