MBABANE – New Mbabane Highlanders coach Rodney ‘Stumbo’ Charles has promised the capital city giants’ loyal supporters that the team would not be relegated under his guidance.

The former Manzini Sundowns coach said he was ready to work with what is at his disposal and was hopeful that they would pull through until the end of the season.
“Well, I can’t promise much as I am new here but I have spotted few grey areas which I can work on as a coach.

I watched our previous game against Tambuti and I picked up that we need composure in front of goals,” said Charles.
‘Stumbo’, as he is affectionately known in the soccer cycles, said the players needed a little bit of motivation for the remaining games to survive the relegation.
“It’s tough out there but I will have to work on the players’ attitude, they need to develop a positive mindset and I have been here at training trying to create a conducive environment for all my players to feel comfortable under my leadership. The players are responding very well and I am very positive that Highlanders will be playing in the elite league next season,” he added.

Charles has replaced former Green Mamba coach Herbert Maruwa, who joined the ‘Bull’ three months ago.
Highlanders are facing the relegation axe and with five games remaining; they are second from the bottom and face a fate witnessed three seasons ago when they were demoted to the National First Division. On 14 points after 17 games, the country’s most successful team will face old rivals Manzini Wanderers, basement Manzini Sea Birds, security services sides Green mamba and Young Buffaloes before the derby against bitter sworn rivals Mbabane Swallows in the last game of the MTN League season.
