MBABANE – Lubombo football has lost a promising youngster in Phinda Ntuli.

The 20-year-old defender died from excessive bleeding while undergoing treatment at Good Shepherd Hospital on Wednesday, following a car accident that occurred over the weekend when his team, Promising Stars were on their way to honour a league match on Sunday.
The team is third on the log in the Malindza Zonal League.

Ntuli was among five players who sustained serious injuries; three were treated and discharged, while Phinda Fakudze has been transferred from Good Shepherd Hospital to Mbabane Government Hospital yesterday.
The club Chairman, Lucky Dlamini, confirmed the death of the player, who he said was valuable to the team.
“We were hoping that he would make it after checking on him on Tuesday, but we were saddened by reports on Wednesday that we received confirming his demise,” Dlamini said.

He said as a small team, they were facing financial challenges and that they were appealing for assistance for the funeral arrangements and medical bills for those who are still being treated.
“We have a shortage of resources and we appeal to the public and companies to assist us raise funds for the funeral expenses because most of the boys are orphans. We have already exhausted the little financial resources in their hospital bills at Good Shepherd,” he said.
He said anyone willing to assist can contact him at 7617 5290.

The accident occurred when a truck collided with the team’s car. The driver of the vehicle they were travelling in is also still hospitalised at Philani Clinic. He alleged that the truck driver was later apprehended and was said to be in a questionable state of sobriety.
The National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) has already sent a statement passing its sympathy to the club, LRPA, players, their families, relatives and friends alike, while also wishing them a speedy recovery.
