RAPTORS MEET SUPERSTARS IN MTN SNB LEAGUE CLASH
MBABANE – MTN SNBL log leaders Manzini Raptors will face defending champions Superstars in the league’s Super Sunday games.
The E250 000 sponsored league enters its second-round matches in the Elite Men’s League. Four games will be played at the Mavuso Sports Centre, with the game of the day between the two giants starting at 3pm.
Swaziland National Basketball League (SNBL) Secretary Mandla Shongwe said they would have loved to play all the leagues games but the Mavuso Sports Centre was not available on Saturday. He said the games would continue on the weekend of April 1-2.
Manzini Superstars, who are the defending champions, started on a low note as they were beaten by Mbabane Jazz 72-59 in the opening games a fortnight ago. Superstars are sixth in the eight-team league.
Newly-promoted side Dunkylaine will face Imbumbe in the early kick-off at 9am while Raiders host Steels at 11am and Jazz play Knicks at 1pm.
Shongwe said they were impressed by the support during the opening games and they hope people will continue to come and watch the games.
He said the teams were doing all their best to improve the standard of playing by working hard at training.
MTN Swaziland Brand and Sponsorship Manager Fisiwe Vilane invited basketball lovers to come in numbers to watch the best of men’s basketball in Swaziland.
“As MTN, we are fully behind the sport and the attendance of the opening games was a testament that the sport has a following. The weekend of April 1 and 2 is expected to also include the Women’s League as well as Men’s Promotional league games as well. Also expected to play that same weekend is the Mbabane Jazz Men vs Steels match as well as the Super ladies vs Phoenix Alumni game,” Vilane said.
