VOLLEYBALL NATIONAL TEAMS FOR WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS

MBABANE – The country’s volleyball senior national teams for both men and women will give their best shot in an attempt to qualify for the World Cup.


The qualifiers for the Southern Region countries are billed for Maputo, Mozambique from May 8-13.
The local teams will come head to head with countries including South Africa, Lesotho, Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Namibia, and Botswana.
Already tentative squad have been selected and they are currently engaged in a training programme. The Swaziland National Volleyball Association (SNVA) Secretary Afi Dlamini said they want to send a strong team that would go there to compete instead of participating hence they had engaged them in early training programme.


Each team will be represented by 14 players in the qualifiers. She said the final squad would be selected when the dates of the games draws closer.
“For now we are spending from the associations coffers for the preparations but we have made financial requests from the Swaziland National Sports and Recreations Council (SNSRC) and the Swaziland Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (SOCGA). We also plead with companies and organisation to also boost the teams especially with uniforms and playing equipment among other things,” she said.


The last time the country competed in the games, we lost out to Botswana. Dlamini said this time around only two countries from each group would qualify to play in the second round of the qualifies against the Northern African countries including Algeria, Nigeria, Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia among others.
The men’s team is lead by Israel Magagula while Themba Sifundza is the assistant coach.

The Women’s squad:

Assistants: Wandile Sithole and Mbuso Vilakati

The players: Sebenzile Nxumalo, Nomcebo Malambe, Khetsiwe Nxumalo, Angela Dlamini, Khosi Dlamini, Maxolela Dlamin, Phendulile Gwebu, Slindile Dlamini, Philile Kunene, Jabu Khathwane, Nono Gama, Nomfundo Dlamini, Gcwalisile Dlamini, Ncobile Dee Dladla, Abigail Simelane, Cebsile Moyane, Nokulunga Kunene and Afi Dlamini.
