GUILTY!

MBABANE – The FA Appeals Board has found suspended Vice President Mashumi Shongwe guilty of defying the organisation by standing for elections as chairman of the Shiselweni Regional Football Association (SRFA).

The decision set aside the ruling of the FA Disciplinary Committee, which had found the underfire administrator not guilty of the two offences.
Shongwe had been charged for first; defying the FA which had stopped him from contesting for the election as SRFA chairman.

On the other count which was the third count on the charge sheet, he was guilty of transgressing Article 34(10) of the FA Constitution by, while holding office  as vice president proceeded to hold the position of SRFA chairman despite the latter being the affiliate of the former. A source from the Appeal’s Board disclosed that the ruling had been communicated to Shongwe on Tuesday and that he was told to mitigate before issuing of the sentence sometime next week.

“The other two counts which he had been found guilty of by the DC, had their judgement upheld by the Appeals Board and that he would have to pay the stipulated fine,” said the source.
FA CEO Frederick Mngomezulu, when called later yesterday evening could not be reached as his cellphone was not answered.
Shongwe preferred not to comment on the issue until after the issuing of sentence next week.

“I am not in a position to say anything about the issue until all the processes have been completed. Maybe the FA can comment,” he said.
The guilty verdict could spell doom for the official in football.

Shongwe was also found guilty of bringing football into disrepute by making utterances to the media which were viewed to have cast aspersion on the administration of the game. He was also guilty of taking football into the High Court, after his election as SRFA chairman was nullified and further suspended pending appearance before a FA DC.

The FA elections were held in July last year where Shongwe and the whole newly elected executive committee and the outgoing one were suspended and charged.
