E40 000 FOR SSSA ATHLETICS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
MBABANE – The Swaziland Sugar Association (SSA) sweetened the SSSA national championships billed for next Mavuso Sports Centre.
The Swaziland Schools Sports Association (SSSA) received a large chunk of E40 000 from the E100 000 donation made by the SSA to three organisation including Mbabane Rotary Club (E30 000) and the Mahamba Gorge Hiking Foundation (E30 000).
SSA has been sponsoring SSSA for the past 20 years. SSA Chief Executive Officer Phil Mnisi said they had a long partnership with athletics as a sport through which they had sponsored both the Lowveld marathon and the national championships.
“We have decided to change focus to support the sports at development level, which is why we decided to focus on the schools competitions. We wish to congratulate all the recipients today because they were selected from a long list of applicants that submitted requests for donations. We are hopeful that they will not utilise the funds impropriety and be good ambassadors of our brand. We also encourage the members of the public to support these events.
SSSA President Celucolo ‘Dino’ Dlamini said they were enjoying the good relationships between the two associations and they hope it continues.
“Last year we received E32 000 and this year’s package has been increased to E40 000 which we greatly appreciate. The pupils will be motivated during the championships and with no doubt the standard will improve,” he said.
He then invited the members of the public and parents to also attend the event to support the children. He said pupils are motivated when they were being watched by their parents as they thrive to excel.
