PITSO’S TIPS FOR ‘BIRDS’
MBABANE – With just less than two weeks left before they play CAF Confederations Cup opponents AC Leopards, Mbabane Swallows should prepare for the worst in Congo-Brazzaville.
If the 10-minute video clip sourced from YouTube is anything to go by then Swallows will have to double their effort to at least win or get a draw against the 2012 CAF Confederations Cup champions.
The 2016 CAF champions, Mamelodi Sundowns had to come with a well orchestrated plan to go past the Congo-Brazzaville team before claiming the coveted trophy last year. The Mamelodi-based team’s victory was well documented in the video titled ‘Champions League-Sundowns vs AC Leopards’.
Sundowns won 2-0 at home before playing to a 1- all draw in Congo.
Interviewed in the clip, Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane said the pitch was terrible. “I have never seen a terrible pitch like this before. You know when we were playing at home I saw CAF inspectors come to check our stadium.
I wonder if they did inspect this pitch. It is very bad and I had to come up with a plan on how we were going to beat them at their own backyard,” Mosimane was quoted in the clip.
“You know it does not help complaining but to face the situation. This kind of pitch does not allow one to do build-ups from the back. I also warned my players against back passes to Onyango because the surface of the pitch is bumpy; it was going to be risky because he could miss the ball due to being under-pressure and the uneven surface. Our game plan was not to open spaces in the middle of the park because they have good players that could take advantage of those spaces.
