MBABANE – Dups Direct Insurance has joined hands in the revival of the Swaziland Squash Association by pumping in E40 000.

The money will be directed towards a National Squash League to be played in stages between April and May as well as in July in August this year. Nelly De Sousa, Dups Executive Chairperson, said her company was proud to be associated with the sport since 2010.

“We are aware the development of squash has been almost stagnant over the past few years.
“It is our hope that continued partnership with the association will go a long way in the resurrection of the sport to its former glory,” said De Sousa.
In her address, De Sousa felt squash had a potential to put local players on the big stage.

“Squash is growing exponentially throughout the world to a point where supporters are lobbying for its inclusion in the 2024 Olympics,” highlighted De Sousa.
A grateful Squash Secretary, Mduduzi Masilela, said developing the sport at all levels countywide remained top priority.

“There was no growth over the years, but we worked tirelessly in the past months in putting together the necessary policies. From here it is all systems go,” said Masilela.

Also present during yesterday’s launch was Swaziland National Sport and Recreation Council (SNSRC) Business Development Manager Zama Tsabedze, who said the association would soon get his office’s full recognition following the formulation of the required policies and documents. The Squash Board comprising former Manzini Wanderers Management Committee Chairman Reuben ‘Rhoo’ Nxumalo was also part of the festivities.
Meanwhile, squash involves striking the ball with a racket, hitting it onto the playable surfaces of the four walls of the court.
