MBABANE – Experienced Premier League referee, Wandile ‘Mancane’ Magagula, has reportedly dumped his whistle to join the army.

Classified information leaked to this publication revealed that the seasoned referee, who has been in charge of matches in the big stage for over five years, was among the army recruits who would be trained to be soldiers for at least the next six months at Mbuluzi Army Barracks.

He is a notable absentee in Premier League matches these days.
National Referees Committee Chairperson, Elphas Ngcamphalala said he was yet to be formally informed about the latest developments.
“He only told us to stop assigning him to matches as he was leaving for greener pastures.

“If the reports are anything to go by, we can wish him good luck in his future endeavours,” said Ngcamphalala.

Ngcamphalala also said the country still had shortage of referees, saying ‘Mancane’ would be allowed to continue officiating after his break. Other referees who are soldiers are the FIFA-accredited duo of assistants Petros Mbingo and Gcina Mamba.
