SA’S PLATINUM STARS WARY OF SWALLOWS
MBABANE – South Africa’s Platinum Stars head coach Cavin Johnson will not take Mbabane Swallows lightly when they meet in the CAF Confederations Cup.
The Rustenburg-based ensemble has been pitted in group B alongside the capital city giants, where they will be up against two North African super powers CS Sfaxien of Tunisia and MC Algier of Algeria in the next two months.
Johnson, commenting after the draw and quoted by his team’s website said the fact that Swallows have reached the group stage showed that they were a strong side.
“Swallows have done well to get here and we are not going to take them lightly,” he said.
The club had sent Manager Senzo Mazingiza for the draw in Cairo on Wednesday, who also echoed Johnson’s words in asserting that the draw was fair because there are two North African teams against two from the COSAFA region.
“We are going to give it our best. We are happy with the draw. It was conducted well. The procedure was satisfactory,” Mazingiza told his club’s website.
“Our first match is at home against Alger, that’s good because we’re playing Maritzburg United around that time.
“The group is balanced since we have two north African teams and two from southern Africa. We are well prepared. We know that north African teams are always ahead in terms of experience in these competitions. We will give it our best.
“We need to be realistic. We have to do the balancing act. We are happy with the experience we are getting from this competition.” With the youngsters and experienced players in the team, we are building a new team.
