MBABANE – Royal Swaziland Police (RSP) cemented second spot in the Swaziland Building Society Netball league after beating Mbabane Raiders.
The game was played yeaterday at Coronation park.
The win ensured that the police ensemble finished the log at the second spot on 10 points after six outings.
The hosts, despite the loss, will finish in the top four and will form part of the top four elite teams to participate in the one day tournament to be played next month. Raiders are on six points after six games.
Coming to the game, the visitors were more aggresive than their opponents and the score was the true reflection of game with RSP leading 16-4 in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Themba Dlamini-led charges came back strong and they managed to score at least 10 more goals, thanks to efforts from goalshooter in Pholiswa Kunene and goal attacker Zinhle Dlamini. The second quarter finished with the hosts still trailing 29-14.
In the third quarter, the visitors regained authority and their attacker Sebenzile Nxumalo gave Raiders captain Afi Dlamini a hard time, scoring a handful of crucial goals.
In the last stanza the RSP sealed their victory and the final score was 56-29.
RSP captain Hlengiwe Bhembe said they did not play to their full potential. “well we thought we could done better than this. We should have scored more goals and concede less goals,” said Bhembe.
Meanwhile, Zinhle Dlamini, who spoke on behalf of the players, said they would pick up the pieces and fix their mistakes. “By the time we play our next game I am hopeful that we would do better.We are still struggling in our defence and we need to create more spaces so we can create chances to score,” said Dlamini.
