NO SOLE DIRECTOR FOR ‘BULL’
EZULWINI – Mbabane Highlanders have stuck to their multiple directorship set-up.
Following a frustrating league campaign, which saw the team almost returning to the National First Division, team Board of Directors Chairman, Zweli Jele, shed light on the current state of affairs at the club. In a press conference at Timbali Lodge in Ezulwini last night, he told the media the current leadership structure comprising Member of Parliament, Marwick Khumalo, Senator Ngom’yayona Gamedze, Lucky Mahlalela, and businessman, Sabelo Tsabedze, remained intact.
Jele told the media that the team was currently undergoing a rebuilding process and the first phase was reviewing the club’s constitution to be in line with the requirements of Club Licensing.
“The secretariat of the team remains unchanged, save for the return of Paul Masilela, who is the PRO.
“We’re in office until the new constitution comes into place. The new constitution will usher in a new structure. It will depend whether we’re brought back or not,” said Jele.
The current directors came on board midway through the recently-ended season. They replaced businessman Bheki ‘Rubber’ Simelane, who resigned after being attacked by a section of the supporters in October last year.
Asked on calls from some sectors for the team to have one team director, Jele said they believed in collective responsibility.
“Leadership has someone at the forefront, but there are also leaders behind,” said Jele. It was categorically stated that only returning PRO, Paul ‘Magidzel’dzakeni’ Masilela, and Jele were authorised to talk on behalf of the team. After the constitution review process, Highlanders would then look to strengthen their financial position by bringing on Board sponsors.
“We didn’t have quality players, so we’ve to review our coaching and playing personnel. We also need to have an efficient administration,” said Jele.
He said all the programmes were expected to be implemented by early next month for the team to have enough time to prepare for the new season, which starts in August.
