FA SPENDS MORE THAN E300 000 ON COURT CASES

EZULWINI – The football cases that went to the High Court hit hard on the National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) purse with an over E300 000 expenditure.
FA CEO Frederick Mngomezulu, when presenting the association’s financial reports to delegates yesterday, said the total amount on legal fees culminating from the court cases was E345 000.
The organisation has since July last year, twice faced ousted Shiselweni FA President Mashumi Shongwe.
There was also a case between the organisation and former Technical Director Myengwa Sibandze and recently, former driver Robert Dlamini, who wants about E139 000 for unfair dismissal.
Mngomezulu said the new auditors separated the legal fees from the consultancy fees.
There were open misgivings from members’ delegates over the organisation’s insistence on defending court cases when they are digging so much into their coffers.
It was FA Vice President and PLS Chairman Victor Gamedze who intervened and set the record straight that the organisation had a responsibility to defend business if taken to court.
“We can’t say going to court is good or bad, but the truth is that football has evolved as a business and the brand has a huge cake, which as expected, everyone wants to have a slice of. The sponsorship in the competitions are huge and clubs find it hard to just bow out if they feel that their rights have been violated. Going to court is more about seeking justice for all parties, but what is key is for all parties including delegates to do introspection of themselves,” he said.
