SIMUNYE – At only 18, brave Nathan Koen had the verve to drag an obstacle weighing 150kg.

The youngster who weighs 88kg and other audacious and slim competitors dragged a heavy horizontal metal bar, while flipping a 80kg pole for about 10m during the newly-introduced strength challenge of the Swazi Warrior cross fit challenge at Simunye Country Club on Saturday.

“I train at the gym for at least two hours a day.
“It’s my first time to endure such a challenge,” said Nathan.
It was a voluntary challenge with a E1 000 incentive. Visiting Mozambicans who weighed between 71 and 76kg also tried their luck. The winner was Kgau Theledi. It was later gathered that women also took part and Yara Perengue was the champion.

The lady Warriors pulled a sled weighing 50kg, and flipped a tyre of the same weight.
At least 28 competitors took up the challenge, and the times separating the winners were mere splits.
Meanwhile, in total, 106 competitors took part in the main event. The competitors came from South Africa, Swaziland and Mozambique.
A majority of the participants are cross fit trainers.

There was a prize money of E21 600, which was shared by all the winners.
There was also a special course, specially designed and built for the ‘blooming warrior’, aged between five and 13.

“These little warriors had amazing fighting spirit and they all walked away with a medal and a huge chocolate,” said one of the organisers, Thea Litschka- Koen.
The event was hosted and sponsored by Simunye Country Club. Score Energy Drink was there to make sure everyone was well hydrated. Tokki Sports Houze once again sponsored branding  and shirts.
