MANZINI – Well-known instructor and coach Zakhele Dlamini is new Swaziland Taekwondo Association (STAss) president.

The Fifth Dan black belt artist leads a new-look board that was ushered into office by the membership during a dramatic elective general assembly at St Michael’s High School in Manzini yesterday. He amassed 12 votes to step into the shoes of long-serving president, Bongani Manyatsi, who was unsuccessful at the polls.
Dlamini, who was vice president in the old Board, was nominated with Manyatsi, artist Wandile Maziya and Sizwe Mabuza for the hot seat.
The latter had the second highest number of votes (9) to emerge as vice president.

There was also a major shake-up in the secretarial position as seasoned competitor and Fourth Dan ranked artist, Mbongeni ‘Ndo’ Nsibandze, replaced Sandile Mchunu. He got 11 votes and breathing heavily down his neck was Mbuso Hleta with nine votes.  The latter is the new vice secretary.
The treasurer’s post also changed hands from Sanele Magagula to Mbuso Nkambule.

Unlike in most associations, the old format of nominating candidates on the spot through the show of hands is still used.
It will be a thing of the past after the review of the constitution, a process which is already underway.
Meanwhile, 2011 All-Africa Games bronze medallist, Sanele Ginindza, has joined the executive committee as an ordinary member.
Unlike in most associations, the old format of nominating candidates on the spot is still used.
Dlamini was appreciative for the vote of confidence, stressing on the need for local artists to conquer the region in order to be ready for the big stage.  The seven-member committee will be in office for the next four years.
