MANZINI – Manzini golfers got the shocks of their lives, when Mduduzi Maphalala from Mbabane conquered in an away turf, two years after his last appearance at the hub.

The 33-year old carded a nett of 77 during the newly-launched Manzini Monthly Mug tournament which had a field of 36 golfers. Coming second was Eerfaan Dada on 71 count back (C/B) to claim the mug by virtue of being a member of the hosting Manzini Club. Visiting players do not get the mug even if they win the tournament. The tournament will continue today where the field will only be reserved for the Manzini Golf Club members.
“I just visited the Manzini Golf Club to play as I last played in 2015. I never thought I would defeat them as they were playing in the home ground but to my surprise, I won. It is good that as golfers, we do visit other clubs to play in their tournament.

“This turns to improve the standard of playing and I hope I will be back here to play against Fakudze,” he said. Maphalala said playing with John Fakudze assisted him as he was always challenging him as a visitor. Fakudze also stole the show in the tournament as he won two awards, longest drive and the best gross. Fakudze said he really had a good day and he enjoyed his game.
“It was a tough competition considering the field of 36 golfers but I had a good game. I enjoyed the whole course and this is my home ground so I was never going to lose without winning a thing,” he said.
