WAYNE CONQUERS 100 PARKRUNS
MBABANE – The Mbabane Parkrun might not be growing in numbers but it is hosting international parkrunners.
Despite coming at position 45, South African parkrunner Wayne Ryder has conquered the Mbabane Parkrun, making it 100 total runs. Ryder said he was running the parkrun in memory of his brother Keith Ryder who used to be a parkrun fanatic. He clocked at 35:53 minutes.
“I was running to honour my brother. He used to partake in this race, and I am very happy that I ran and finished the race with a better time. What also motivates me is to keep fit and healthy. I am 73 years old so I have to keep my body in shape,” Ryder said.
In the overall category, the winner was Swazi Slojos runner Mphilo Maziya who beat other 107 runners to come first at 18:22 minutes while Correctional athlete Kwanele Magagula came second on 19 minutes to beat Mbuyiselo Gamedze for the second spot. Gamedze finished third on 20:59 minutes.
In the ladies category, Delsile Ngubane continues to dominate as she finished tops at 26:07 minutes while Belinda Fuller came second on 30:31 minutes.
Ngubane said she was happy that she improved her time.
“My target is to finish the race within 20 minutes and today I did it in 26 minutes, this means that it’s possible to achieve my goal. I have to train thoroughly, like run 10 kilometres a day and time myself, I believe I can improve,” Ngubane said.
In the junior boys category, Cameroon Heenan reigned supreme, clocking in at 29:16 minutes while Sierra Du Pont came first finishing the race at 32:08 minutes in the female junior category and in the overall ladies section, she came at position two. Heenan said although he had flue, he managed to partake in the race and finished it which was an achievement.
“Well, it was a nice race although I could not run faster because I have flue, but hey, I am happy that I came first under my category,” Heenan said.
