PIRATES ADD TO CITY’S WOES

LOBAMBA – A penalty by Sihle Ndaba earned Moneni Pirates their second win of the season against Midas City yesterday.

It was a well deserved victory for Zenzele ‘Ace’ Dlamini’s charges as Moneni Pirates dominated play in both stanzas but only to score a solitary goal. The win for the Sea Robbers was a major boost following a winless streak in their past’s three games.
This was City’s fifth straight defeat and this time around it was worse, as for the first time they performed dismally failing to score a single goal. This should spell trouble for new coach Artwell Dludlu, who replaced 2015/2016 coach of the season Caleb Ngwenya. The latter has joined elite league rookies Vovovo, who are dinning with the ‘big boys’ following their good run in the first four games.
Noteworthy, neither team showed the urgency to bang in goals as there was a E10 000 incentive at stake for a hat-trick goal scorer.

Pirates despite losing three key players that is Mncedisi Dlamini, Mfanufikile ‘Fash’ Ndzimandze both to Mbabane Highlanders and Bongani Ndzimandze to Royal Leopard, still displayed the carpet football that they are famously known for.
However, despite displaying entertaining football there the ‘Ace’ coached side failed to break through City’s defence which was marshalled by Mayibongwe Mlipha.
The first real chance came in the half hour mark when Pirates front man Vusimuzi Mashaba’s header was parried for a fruitless corner.
Xolani Ngwenya almost came to scoring five minutes later after he was set for goal by diminutive all-round winger Fanele ‘Order’ Mamba but his shot went wide. Just when the game was thought to be headed for a  go stalemate, the unthinkable happened when City’s Machawe Mamba handled the ball inside the box and referee Mbongeni Shongwe did not hesitate but point on the spot in the 47th minute and Sihle Ndaba converted from the spot.

After resumption the visitors continued from where they left off and Sihle Ndaba was brought down inside the danger area by City defender Mayibongwe Mlipha in the hour mark and Shongwe pointed on the spot again. This time Ndaba failed to make it 2-0 when his shot ballooned against the crossbar and was cleared by right back defender Mancoba Zwane.
The hosts could have levelled matters with 10 minutes to spare but Melusi Dlamini’s shot went wide and he could have done better owing that he was unmarked inside the box. It was another sad loss for City as they lost 3-1 against rookies Vovovo on Thursday after opening the deadlock.
