MBABANE – In a month, local bodybuilder Arnaldo Barbosa has shrugged off eight kilogrammes in readiness for tomorrow’s South African Championships.

Barbosa leaves today to compete in the Under-70kg category in South Africa, an event that carries a ticket to next year’s World Championships. It is for the third time that Barbosa has qualified for the mega South African Championships and has once made it to the biggest stage in the bodybuilding world.

The Mozambique-born bodybuilder weighed 72kg and with extensive training and a strict diet, Barbosa is now at 64kg, losing an incredible 8kg.  Pretoria will play host to Saturday’s event and Barbosa qualified by virtue of placing first and second in the 70kg and Men Classic under 4.65 metres respectively, in Cape Town two weeks ago.

Barbosa hosted the second edition of the Barbosa Classic on Saturday, where Simanga Maziya returned to local bodybuilding top table with an overall win, to shrug off stiff competition from the likes of Donsa Thwala, Sanele Msibi and Mancoba Mamba.
