MBABANE – The grass is indeed greener at Correctional Services side Green Mamba for new coach Caleb Ngwenya.

The former Midas City and Vovovo F.C mentor has, according to well-placed sources, signed a two-year contract worth about E240 000. Our impeccable source close to the deal disclosed that the coach has been offered a E10 000 salary, plus other allowances which could not be disclosed. “This is the standard rate by the club for all coaches and the club is among the better paying in the league,” the source said. Ngwenya was unveiled as the successor to former Sihlangu mentor Harris Madze Bulunga, whose about nine months’ tenure was terminated last week by the club directors. He could not be reached for comment on the matter. Green Mamba CEO Thami Phakathi said issues about the coach’s contract were handled by the directors, and were a matter between the two parties.

A senior member of the team yesterday could only confirm that the coach has been offered an attractive contract, but refused to divulge the figures. “The team does not reveal contractual issues, because they are not for public consumption. Instead, the team seeks nothing but improved performance and we hope he will get what he is worth. A contract can be long or short, but the bottom line is the result,” the official said. Green Mamba last tasted silverware in 2014 during the leadership of Thabo ‘Koki’ Vilakati, who beat Mbabane Swallows 2-1 in the Castle Premier Challenge Cup. The closest they came afterwards, was reaching the finals of the SwaziBank Cup in 2016 under Zimbabwean mentor Herbet Maruwa, who ironically lost to Koki’s Mbabane Swallows 2-1. When hiring Harris Madze Bulunga, set a top four target and that he should win at least a trophy. In Ngwenya, they have hired an individual who has a CAF A Licence, has led the unfashionable Mbabane Midas City to its highest ever finish in the league two seasons ago at position 5. Last season the club finished eighth.
