EZULWINI – The long awaited Sports Bill will soon be an act, turning sports in the country to a powerful and viable industry.

Swaziland National Sports and Recreation Council (SNSRC) Board Chairman, Lawrence ‘Lolo’ Mthethwa, revealed during Saturday night’s glittering maiden National Sports Awards at Royal Swazi Convention Centre, that the process has reached advanced stages of consultation. In completion, the Sports Bill is expected to be tabled to parliament and made into an Act. “We are on a cusp of a new era, that of joining the elite club of countries that have transformed their sports into a powerful and viable industry that provides employment and unparalleled rewards to individuals, institutions and the state,” Mthethwa said. In one of the main focus of the SNSRC, in the upcoming year will be the establishments of a National Sports System, which will further help align local sports with what is considered best practice in the countries that we look up to. Mthethwa made an example of how marathons and cycling events can be graded and used as qualifiers for major international events.
