SD WINS 14 TROPHIES IN 10TH STANLIB CHAMP OF CHAMPS
MANZINI – Like in the previous two editions, Swaziland’s Oyama stars were overall winners of the 10th STANLIB International Oyama Karate Champ of Champs.
The annual karate tournament was held at Mavuso Sports Emporium last Saturday, where it packed scores of cheerful fans who loved the fights that went on and left the country with 14 trophies.
Visiting South Africa did snatch gold in some divisions but overall they took home 10 trophies, including the Male Open Weight Division that ex-Mr Swaziland Linda Dlamini could not defend against the giant Siphiwe Manzi.
“We were overall winners in the tournament, which shows we are still ahead of our neighbours who we have even dominated in their own soil whenever they invite us. It was just a good achievement by our artists and we’re so grateful,” Oyama Association’s Sensei Bongani Ndzabandzaba said.
He congratulated the winners and encouraged them to keep working hard as karate has no break, lest you lose fitness. He also thanked the South Africans for making it to the tournament while also appreciating the presence of Taekwondo and Ashihara, while Sosai were spectators.
