IT’S ‘XAVI’-OF-WAR!
MBABANE – Fasten your seatbelt and brace yourself for a massive transfer three-team tug-of-war over back again Mthunzi ‘Xavi’ Mkhontfo.
The player, who is currently out of contract, after his deal with DRC giants AS Vita Club was not renewed, had last week promised to return to his former club Royal Leopard. However, two other teams in the league have shown their interest to sign the player.
A source close to the player disclosed that among the teams is Mbabane Swallows who have even tabled an offer for the speedy forward.
“He met Swallows last week Friday and is still mulling over what is considered as an irresistible offer by the capital city giants,” the source said.
The source said Swallows are so determined to land the player that they were even prepared to pay Leopard transfer fee if needed.
Mbabane Swallows General Manager Sandile Zwane distanced himself from the deal, saying nothing had been communicated to him regarding interest in the player.
Another source confided with this publication that armed forces side, Green Mamba, are making behind- the-scenes moves to lure the forward into their camp.
“Green Mamba has shown interest and watch the space,” the source revealed.
Meanwhile, Green Mamba CEO Thami Phakathi said as far as they knew the player belonged to Leopard and that as a team they were not in the habit of luring other teams’ players. “We only gave trial to a Zimbabwean player, who has since left,” he said.
