MBABANE – “The most important thing about leadership is your character and the values that guide your life,” once remarked philosopher, Brenda Barnes.

He could well have had modest SwaziBank Managing Director, Zakhele Lukhele in mind as the unforgettable quote nicely encapsulate the story of the banking institution’s head honcho with every word.

Lukhele’s life is anchored on strong principles, embedded in unequivocal leadership and guided by values which makes him, to paraphrase essayist Jim Rohn, strong, but not rude, kind but not weak;  bold but not bully, thoughtful but not lazy, humble but not timid, proud but not arrogant.

Nothing typifies this more than his serene office and in turn, it reflects he has maintained the momentum of one of the jewels of Swazi football – the magical and exhilarating SwaziBank Cup. When the dearly departed former Managing Director, Stanley Matsebula departed to meet his maker, a true marketer, was replaced by a financial guru like Lukhele, there were fears the aura and razzmatazz that made the tournament the flagship of Swazi football would suffer. But Lukhele has taken to the task like a fish to water and seamlessly chartering it to calmer waters in his own way of leadership.

The tournament to-date continues to be unique, sets the standards and the tone for everything good about football in this country. Thanks too, to the innovative ideas of the Marketing department headed by the vivacious Lindiwe ‘Dolly, Lomagugu’ Shongwe, the SwaziBank Cup remains the crème de la crème of Swazi football without a shadow of a doubt.

Yesterday, in distinctively cool weather conditions, in his modest office, Lukhele explained how the SwaziBank Cup has created a niche for itself over the glorious 14 years of existence.
He also touched on many issues regarding the sponsorship which has seen a E200 000 growth in the new three-year contract. Enjoy your reading..........
