MBABANE – Over the 14 years of their football sponsorship, SwaziBank has truly lived up to its pay off-line of being a ‘Bank with a heart’.

The ‘People’s Bank’ has invested in excess E20 million into one of their Corporate Social Investments Programme – football.
This was revealed by the bank’s Managing Director Zakhele Lukhele in a wide-ranging interview with this newspaper yesterday.

“The Bank has proved to all that it is commitment to the development of soccer in the country. Since 2004, the Bank has religiously sponsored the tournament and even increasing the sponsorship package over time. As of today, the total sponsorship of the tournament since inception is in excess of E20 million. I would say the Bank has invested significantly in football despite sometimes harsh economic conditions,” Lukhele said.

Lukhele said the Bank’s commitment to football development is driven by the fact that the game unites the Nation, reduces crime, source of income and promotes physical fitness.
“The SwaziBank Cup has become part of the Soccer calendar and is a vehicle for the Bank to give back to society,” he added.

Lukhele then paid glowing tribute to His Majesty King Mswati III and his government for the continued support of the tournament.
“You will recall that the first ever tournament final to be graced by His Majesty was the SwaziBank Cup and whenever he cannot attend, he sends a representative. We say: Bayethe…Wena Waphakathi!,” Lukhele said.
