MBABANE – Mbabane Swallows who? That seems to the statement the country’s CAF Champions League envoys’ next rivals, Zanaco FC in the pre-group stages match are making. This is that country’s newspaper headlines are anything to go by.

Daily Nation quoted Zanaco’s assistant coach David Chilufya after their 3-1 away triumph in Gambia as saying they were not worried about next Tuesday’s fixture but looked well beyond it to the final.

“I’m not worried about facing Swallows as we have a new team capable of beating the Swazis. We are trying to build a team that can compete fairly in the tournament. We lost about seven players who joined other clubs and now we have a new team but our goal is to develop a team that will go far in the tournament.
“We have played two games, next we meet Swallows. We believe Zanaco will get a positive result against Swallows because we know how the Swazis play their game,” he told journalists.
He said their aim was reaching the quarterfinals and then the finals.

“Last year we reached the group stage but this time around we are getting to the finals because we have a good team,” Chilufya said.
Zanaco captain Ziyo Tembo said the team was not under pressure and will take it one game at a time as they compete in the tournament.

“We believe in ourselves. We knew how Gambians would play the game because we played them back home. We are not going to be under pressure, we have been in this tournament before and we will take it one game at a time,” he said.
Swallows are expected to travel next Monday or Sunday afternoon to Johannesburg where they will connect their flight to Lusaka.

This is the same opposition they lost to in 2013 CAF Champions League preliminary stage and had also fallen to other Zambian giants being Nkana and Zesco United. Other opponents played by Swallows without success are South African sides Orlando Pirates in 2005 and SuperSport United in 2009.
Zanaco beat Swallows 3-2 at home and came to Swaziland, walked out with a goalless draw.
