‘IT’S A GRUDGE GAME’
MBABANE – “We know it’s a grudge game in all avenues.” These were the words of Premier League of Swaziland (PLS) Chairman Mark Carmichael as Mbabane Swallows prepared to do battle against Royal Leopard in Sunday’s much anticipated Ingwenyama Cup final
In the past three finals between the two sides, Leopard has failed to beat Swallows, losing 0-2 in the 2015/16 Ingwenyama Cup, 0-1 in the 2016 Castle Premier Challenge and 4-5 after penalties in the 2017 SwaziTelecom Charity Cup.
“Let us showcase our culture and make the King proud, show FIFA that we can deliver a great spectacle and CAF that we deserve another slot in their competitions. Let us show the professionalism we dearly crave and let us work together to market the country,” Carmichael said.
The PLS boss acknowledged Sincephetelo Motor Vehicle Accident Fund, the sponsors of the tournament, for the contribution to football and that they have shown as football that they were capable to deliver.
“In turn, we are hoping to secure a better sponsorship as we continue with our partnership. Buckle up, not only for the drive but, for the flight,” he added.
Prince Bukhosi, Chairman of the Ingwenyama Cup Culture Committee, described the hype ahead of the final as good and that it was reason enough for finalists across all the competitions in culture and football to up their game.
“Swazis must come in numbers and be in good behaviour as Their Majesties will be present,” the prince said.
