VOVOVO IN TOP 10 AFRICAN TEAMS WITH FUNNY NAMES
MBABANE – Vovovo may not be a forceful side, but they are ‘trending’ in the African continent.
The Premier League newcomers are ranked in the top 10 African football clubs with hilarious names by The South African, which is a website covering issues and events around the globe. According to the rankings, Vovovo are sixth on the list.
While the rationale for including the 2015/16 Hhohho Super League champions is not explained, they have been featured alongside the likes of Chicken Inn from Zimbabwe and Leones Vegetarianos – Equitorial Guinea.
“The team logo has a rather hungry looking lion, probably not satisfied with its vegetarian diet… at least that’s what the name suggests,” reads a commentary about Vegetarianos.
On top of the list Cape Coast Ebusua Dwarfs from Ghana.
While campaigning in the regions over four years ago, Vovovo used to be called Motshane FC. After one season in the country’s football second-tier, they won promotion to the Premier League via the improvised play-offs, which were introduced to complement the newly-introduced 14-team Premier League.
They were third on the charts at the end of the 2016/17 MTN National First League season, but got a slot in top flight football after surviving the three-team play-offs involving Madlenya and Manzini Sea Birds.
Meanwhile, in the SiSwati Dictionary, Vovovo is defined as a species of tree that produces a lot of water from its leaves.
It is found in isolated patches in the Mbuluzi Gorge. According to information sourced from the Swaziland National Trust Commission (SNTC) website, it can be used to gain popularity, dignity and respect. SNTC is the custodian of Swaziland’s cultural and natural heritage.
