SWAZI TV WILL FINALLY BROADCAST CUP FINAL
MBABANE – Swazi TV viewers can heave a sigh of relief following an agreement with SuperSport to broadcast today’s Ingwenyama Cup final.
Initially, the arrangement was to allow the ‘World of Champions’ to exclusively broadcast live the showdown between Mbabane Swallows and Royal Leopard at Somhlolo National Stadium. However, Swazi TV viewers would no longer be left out following an agreement with SuperSport to give the former a live feed for free. Several stakeholders, that include the Premier League of Swaziland (PLS) were said to have been involved in the negotiations to ensure there was no blackout.
Swazi TV Corporate Affairs Manager Mncedisi Mayisela confirmed the latest developments.
National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) CEO Frederick Mngomezulu had earlier said their hands were tied on the matter as Swazi TV was expected to negotiate with SuperSport.
PLS Chairman Mark Carmichael also confirmed the latest developments and clarified that his office never stood in the way of the national television station as protocol needed to be followed.
“We want the whole country to witness the majestic event.
“We know there is a business aspect involved in broadcast deals, but we can’t get into the politics at this stage. As PLS, we have to ensure we do things properly, as we have the interest of the clubs at heart,” he said.
Meanwhile, all is set for today’s festivities to be blended with culture. The match gets underway at 3:30pm and will be televised on pay-per-view channel, SuperSport 4.
