MBABANE – The bank with a heart, SwaziBank has spread its wings to include women football in the SwaziBank Cup, with the inaugural champions set to take home E20 000.

‘Uyayifuna Na?’ is the SwaziBank Cup’s slogan this year and it also applies in the juniors (under-20s) and women football knockout which is the first edition in the tournament’s 15 years of existence. The response from the 12 clubs to compete in the new tournament was ‘siyayifuna’ (we want it) whenever the speakers teased them with the slogan.

This was during the official launch of the ladies tournament at the SwaziBank Boardroom inside the capital city yesterday.
The bank’s Managing Director Zakhele Lukhele, in the presence of the FA CEO Frederick Mngomezulu, PLS COO Pat Vilakati, FA Vice-President and the tournament’s Management Committee Chairman Comfort Shongwe, bank staff and clubs’ representatives as well as some players, announced the champions’ prize.

“Today, the bank is spreading its wings yet again in football to include women as well. Therefore, I am pleased to announce that the SwaziBank Cup Women Knockout tournament is sponsored to the tune of E75 000.  “The highlights of the sponsorship are that champions will pocket E20 000, E10 000 for the runners-up, E5 000 each for semi-finalists and E2 500 each for quarterfinalists,” he said.

He went on to announce the individual prizes which are Player of the Series (E1 500), Top Goal Scorer (E1 000) and Player of the Match (from semi-finals – E500). He said they looked forward to the first edition which they anticipated having in subsequent editions.
“The Women tournament will run concurrently with the ongoing SwaziBank Cup, and the finals should be played on the same day as that of the main tournament.

We look forward to an interesting and competitive tournament that will add value in the development of local football,” he said.
The tournament will kick off next weekend when the SwaziBank Cup main tournament plays its quarterfinals.
