WE’LL WIN SWAZIBANK CUP FOR FREDDY – ‘WESLIANS’
MANZINI – Manzini Wanderers are determined to shine in the remaining games of the campaign in honour of late team loyalist Freddy Dlamini.
Dlamini, who once served in the team’s management committee, was laid to rest at 6:35am at Logoba outside Manzini yesterday after succumbing to an undisclosed illness in the past week. Wanderers National Supporters Committee (NSC) Secretary Sandile ‘Ntofo’ Dlamini told about 300 mourners during the funeral service that the team was ‘poorer’ without Freddy.
“He loved the team very much and would sleep on an empty stomach if we lost a match.
“As a team we want to beat Royal Leopard in the league game on Monday and even win the SwaziBank Cup in Freddy’s honour,” he said.
Wanderers are in the quarter-finals of the SwaziBank Cup and will know their opponents during a draw on Tuesday. They are yet to win the prestigious tournament since its launch in 2004.
Freddy, on the other hand, was also a strict team marshal, and ‘Ntofo’ said that he would be missed as he protected the club at all costs.
He shot to fame in the 1980s, as he was part of group that went to fetch a Wanderers player Juries, who was training with XI Men in Flight.
“He was a strict and vigilant marshal.
“Our deepest condolences go to the family,” said ‘Ntofo’.
Freddy is survived by his parents, Sikhakhane Alfred Dlamini and Florah Solani Mndzebele, as well as an undeclared number of siblings, sons, daughters and grandchildren.
Notable attendees during the funeral included Kwaluseni Member of Parliament (MP) Mkhosi Dlamini, Wanderers Director Peter Mathaba, MTN Khemani Cycling Club Coach and Race Director Artwell Ndzinisa, and Match Commissioner, Dumisani Hadebe, to mention but a few.
